I would just like to express my thanks to IBS Pianos for the excellent service that it renders to the South African College of Music and to me personally. The company and people involved, and here I must single out Garth, are always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate our many needs and demands, and it is thanks to this that our pianos are considered the best maintained pianos in the country.

My association with Kawai pianos and especially my beloved RX7, has given me immense pleasure and reward and it never fails to deliver even after hours of practice. I sincerely hope that our professional relationship will continue for many years and can only recommend your company most highly.

There’s only one place to contact with regards to anything to do with pianos in South Africa, Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos!’ This is what I always tell people! Their service is excellent, their technicians are world class, their expertise is unmatched, and their pianos are of the highest quality and standard.

I believe it’s their passion for the piano that makes them the company they are. That passion comes from Ian himself, a true master of his art. He introduced me to Kawai pianos several years ago and I have never looked back. They are beautiful instruments with warm and pristine sound. It is indeed a privilege to be associated with Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos and Kawai.

I am delighted to recommend Ian Burgess-Simpson and his company based on my extensive experience of his work. Ian has tuned and serviced my piano in Cape Town for nearly 20 years. He is a perfectionist and a man of utmost integrity. His complete knowledge of pianos is unlike anyone I have met, either in South Africa or in Europe.

I have been impressed with the work he has done on the many South African pianos that I have performed concerts on over the years. He has rebuilt many concert instruments in South Africa, such as the Cape Town Concert Series Steinway, the Steinway in Northwards House, Johannesburg and the Yamaha for the Fish Hoek Friends of Music Society. Having played these three pianos ‘before’ and ‘after’,I can confidently confirm his utmost excellence in this field too. Indeed his advice and quality workmanshiphave contributed immensely to raising of the standards of pianos in concert halls and music societies throughout the country over the past decade. This is a considerable achievement for which we pianists are extremely grateful!

He and his company have always provided honest service to my family too. In 2011 my Aunt had appraisals of her Schimmel grand piano by various piano firms in the Western Cape and Ian Burgess Simpson pianos were by far the most thorough and fair. She eventually sold the piano through them and was delighted with their service and the price that she received.

I purchased a new Kawai grand piano from Ian in 2007 and had it shipped to the UK where I now live. This process was quite complicated, but I was delighted with the support and service that Ian and his team provided to me. I am thrilled with the instrument, which was specially set up and voiced by Ian as well as with the Kawai piano brand. As a result, I have been instrumental in buying several Kawai grand and upright pianos for King’s College School in Wimbledon and have recommended them to my students.

In summary, I cannot recommend Ian Burgess-Simpson and his company highly enough. The music community of Cape Town and the rest of South Africa are lucky to have such a dedicated and experienced piano technician and entrepreneur in their midst. I wish that he lived here in London!

Shannon HopeI fell in love with the exquisite tone of the digital range of Kawai pianos from the first note I played. The MP6 perfectly captures and translates the tone of an acoustic piano into the convenience of a digital format, and the new ivory touch adds to the already unbelievably realistic hammer action, with a delicate control that I haven’t experienced on other pianos. Playing an instrument with this level of realistic touch and tone is like playing a concert grand at every performance, which is a dream come true.

I heard about Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos through two main sources – word of mouth and the internet. I studied at the College of Music at UCT, and picked up that you were the Kawai piano distributors. You also do a lot of the repair work on the pianos at the College, so that is another reason why I was aware of you. A friend of mine was interested in buying a grand piano, and mentioned that you were very helpful. Lastly, when I was searching for piano stores in the Western Cape, your site comes up. The service I’ve received has been fantastic. Quick responses coupled with constant communications and high quality bonuses I wasn’t expecting (notably the short-term loan of the CN23, and the efficient delivery and setup), made my purchase a real pleasure. 10/10.

The piano is fantastic! My wife has so enjoyed it. It is great to hear her playing again. I have been so impressed with its versatility and functionality. You have a great product (although the word does not do it justice – it is art and engineering combined).
